SEOUL, June 24, 2026 – Internationally renowned broadcaster, CNN, will shine a spotlight on Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) in a new episode of its ‘Showtime’ series.
Presenting an exclusive look at preparations for the memorial concert honoring the 25th anniversary of the passing of Hyundai’s Founding Chairman, Ju-yung Chung, the broadcast will take viewers behind-the-scenes as four world-class pianists come together in unison on stage for the first time.
The Group organized the memorial event under the theme “Resonance That Continues,” underscoring how the late founder’s philosophy and life — dedicated to creating better lives for people — continue to echo powerfully across generations and expand into innovations for humanity.
Four of Korea’s leading pianists — Sunwook Kim, Yekwon Sunwoo, Seong-jin Cho and Yunchan Lim — participated in the concert, interpreting the late Chairman Chung’s life and spirit through piano performances.
The program will also introduce viewers to Lee Jong-Yeol, Seoul Arts Centre's master piano tuner and South Korea's first, who meticulously tuned the four pianos to create a perfect harmony. He reveals the specific tools and methods required to ready an instrument, particularly four in this case, for such a remarkable occasion.
It will additionally highlight Steinway’s own artisans, who spent a year assembling over 12,000 parts to craft each piano at the historic Steinway factory in Astoria, Queens – one of only two Steinway factories in the world.
Born the eldest son of a poor farming family, Ju-yung Chung worked initially as a dock laborer, construction worker and factory errand boy. Unphased even when an auto repair shop launched with all his assets was lost to a fire less than a month after opening, or his subsequent civil engineering firm lost its assets during the Korean War, Chung never gave in.
Continually taking on new challenges, he built leading Korean enterprises in construction, automobiles and shipbuilding, playing a leading role in the transformation of the nation’s industrial and economic fortunes. To this day, the late Founding Chairman is remembered as a pioneering business leader whose positive thinking, bold vision and relentless determination never failed to place the wellbeing of people and country at their core.
